Professional Teeth Whitening in San Diego, CA

As adults, our lifestyle choices significantly impact almost every aspect of our lives, and the appearance of our teeth is no different. Smoking, consuming darkly pigmented fruits and juices, not drinking enough water, and improper oral hygiene can cause stains that dull the appearance of one’s smile. Over time, discolored teeth can cause us to make negative first impressions on others and lead to a decrease in self-confidence.

What Can Professional Teeth Whitening Achieve?

Whether you are considering in-office or at-home professional teeth whitening, Dr. Kohani can help you obtain that beautiful, glowing smile you have always desired.

Eliminates Yellow Stains

Having stained teeth can be embarrassing. Stains can occur from smoking, drinking certain liquids, medications, and tooth decay. Teeth whitening is an ideal option for those whose natural teeth have become discolored.

Brighter and Healthier-Looking Smile

Poor dental care can lead to discolored, yellow, or even brownish teeth that can be embarrassing and make you feel self-conscious. If not adequately treated, stains can develop into severe oral health issues later on.

Fast and Efficient

Our professional teeth whitening treatments can quickly and effectively eliminate any yellowing, improving your smile and self-esteem. La Jolla Cosmetic Dentistry & Orthodontics offers multiple whitening formulas depending on your expectations and timeframe.

Dr. Kohani understands that you have a life to live outside of the dentist’s office and that your cosmetic procedure shouldn’t take hours to complete. He offers fast and effective results so you can quickly get back to your routine with a brighter smile.

“At our practice, we do not cut corners. We only use the most advanced, cutting-edge equipment available.”rn— Dr. Kohani

Teeth Whitening FAQ

How much does professional teeth whitening cost?

The cost of your procedure will vary depending on the type of treatment, the extent of correction required, and your individual needs. Dr. Kohani will provide you with a detailed price sheet during your consultation.

How long do I need to wear my whitening trays if I decide to do the at-home kit?

Depending on the concentration you receive, you can wear your whitening trays for 30 to 60 minutes during the day. Your at-home treatment is entirely personalized for your lifestyle.

Can I get my teeth whitened if I am also considering getting a crown or veneers?

If you are receiving crowns or veneers, it is best to have your existing teeth whitened first and then have the ceramic material stained to match.

Is teeth whitening permanent?

Although teeth whitening provides excellent results, it does not prevent new stains from forming. Proper oral hygiene and limiting the number of staining foods you consume can help maintain your results.

Will teeth whitening make my teeth more sensitive?

Some patients experience some sensitivity and mild discomfort for one to three days after teeth whitening, but this largely depends on the type of whitening treatment you choose. If you know that you have sensitive teeth, opt for Iveri™ in-office teeth whitening, which can be used on sensitive teeth, or Opalescence® Boost in-office teeth whitening, which does not interfere with tooth sensitivity.

Can I whiten my teeth if I am pregnant?

While there is no clear evidence that teeth whitening is harmful during pregnancy, the long-term side effects are unclear. In general, mothers are encouraged to wait until after giving birth to have their teeth whitened.

Does insurance cover teeth whitening?

Most insurance policies do not cover teeth whitening, as it is considered an elective and cosmetic procedure. You can contact your insurance provider for confirmation about your coverage.

How long until I see results?

You should notice visibly whiter teeth immediately after the procedure, with the results lasting from six months to a year if you follow proper guidelines. It’s recommended to get touch-ups one to two times a year to battle the natural stains that come with eating and drinking.

Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?

Anyone with healthy gums, teeth, and overall good oral hygiene can benefit from teeth whitening. Professional teeth whitening treatments have been proven to provide results that can last for an extended period. If you have oral issues that prevent you from being a teeth whitening candidate, talk to your dentist to learn more about your other options.

Is teeth whitening bad for your teeth?

Dentists understand what can and cannot harm your teeth. Professional whitening products contain a carbamide peroxide level of 10 percent or less, which has no adverse effect on the enamel surface. Additionally, there is no evidence that teeth whitening hurts teeth nerves. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure recommended by all professional dental associations.

How long do teeth whitening treatments take?

The length of the treatment will depend on which specific treatment you choose. On average, the treatment will take between 15 and 30 minutes.

Does teeth whitening affect veneers, crowns, and fillings?

Teeth whitening products do not significantly impact crowns or porcelain veneers. Ask your dentist if teeth whitening is right for you before making any decisions.

Does teeth whitening work on all types of stains?

Teeth whitening is most effective on yellow-stained teeth. Individuals get yellow-stained teeth from eating foods and drinking coffee, red wine, tea, and smoking. Unfortunately, individuals with brownish-colored teeth may find that the teeth whitening doesn’t work well for them. Additionally, individuals with grayish or purple-stained teeth will likely find that teeth whitening has little to no impact.

Consult with our dentist to ensure that teeth whitening can get you the results you need. If teeth whitening isn’t the solution for you, your dentist may have other potential solutions, such as veneers.
